Duplicity Duplicity :: movie review
Well I finally got around to viewing Duplicity, Starring Julia Roberts and Clive Owen as a team of spies that after a one night stand decide to pull off a big time scam on a couple of warring corporate giants, and as the story flashes back and forth between different times lines we get to see how this story develops. Well that in a nutshell is the best short synopsis I could come up with without giving too much of this story away. The chemistry between Roberts and Owen is there just a little off, maybe I read it wrong, but there are a few times that I was wondering if they were acting or just picking up a pay-check. With that said there seems to be allot of movies these days that are filmed in Europe and this film is no exception. There are some stunning views of Rome and New York as well of some stuff that was film in the Bahamas which add an air of realism to the fact that the characters in this film are both world traveling secret agents.
The International : movie review : Clive Owens The International : movie review : Clive Owens is an Interpol agent (Louis Salinger) that is a working on case in Europe to uncover the reason a large bank is buying hundreds of millions of dollars worth of missile parts. With the help of Assistant District Attorney Eleanor Whitman (Naomi Watts) he finds that all of his leads keep dying and the story progresses into an intense thriller with plot twists and turns.
Vicky Cristina Barcelona Vicky and Cristina are on summer holiday in Barcelona Spain; both women are in search of something different. One to see the sites of Spain to complete her master’s degree, the other a fantasy of wild love that she feels she can find in the two months they are going to be in Europe. First let me say that I really don’t like Woody Allen films, the narcotic, self absorbed charter he plays in every film irritates me, but as a director he is coming into his own and improving with every frame of film.
The Soloist :: movie review The Soloist :: movie review
The Soloist is based on the true story of Nathaniel Ayers (Jamie Foxx) , a musician that los Angeles times reporter Steve Lopez (Robert Downey Jr.) encounters in downtown playing a violin with 2 strings. They start to talk and Nathaniel starts mentioning names of people in an offhand way, Lopez asks who they are, he replies that they were classmates at Juilliard; Lopez realizes that he means The Juilliard School of music in New York City. Interested in the possibly of a story, he calls Juilliard and the school calls back and he finds out that Nathaniel was really there and dropped out.
Powder Blue movie review 2009 Powder Blue movie review 2009
Powder Blue starts with Jack Doheny (Ray Liotta) standing on the beach at dawn, he swims into the gray, dark ocean and you get the sense this going to be an intense film. This dialog driven story was talked about in the press for the fact that Jessica Biel plays a stripper, but that is a sideshow to the deep and moving plot. This ensemble cast plays a set of seemingly random people that have their lives collide on Christmas in Los Angeles. Eddie Redmayne portrays a mortician who falls in love with her with Rose-Johnny (Jessica Biel) after finding her lost dog that he runs over with his hearse.
THE GUITAR : actionmoviereviews As a guitar player myself, I developed an instant liking for the premise for the film. Hell you get an empty large New York loft, an actress with super model looks, and a couple of Marshall Stacks and a statocaster electric guitar, You will defiantly get some beautiful imagery. This is the story of a woman told she is going to die soon and goes on a spending spree, complete with dream lodging and furnishings as she changes everything in her life.

State of Play

State of Play :: movie review 2009 State of Play starts with a young man running; bouncing off cars as he runs into an alley where he hides behind a dumpster where he thinks is safe. Then he is shot by man who then shoots a bicycle rider who happens to accidentally witness themurder as he rides past. We then are taken to Cal McAffrey (Russell Crowe) driving to the murder scene in his old Saab, he is a reporter with a factious newspaper the Washington Globe based on the Washington Post and he is writing about the murders. Then when Congressman (Ben Affleck) Stephen Collins’s mistress fails in front of a subway train, a chain of events unfold that hint that a conspiracy is being manufactured by a defense contractor that provides Security in Afghanistan and Iraq, which the congressman is currently investigating .

Cal reluctantly teams up with the newspaper’s web blogger Della Frye Rachel McAdams who questions Cal about his college roommate Congressman Collins and after a rocky start they are immersed together into the story of a lifetime. This is a well written story, with strong performances, clever camera work, and a compelling musical score. Russell Crowe is very believable in this role and looks and sounds as if he was been writing for a newspaper for years, he really is one of today’s best actors. Ben Affleck gives a breakout performance and is really exceptional as the congressman, I do think Mr. Affleck will receive some kind of award for the role at year’s end.

I read in doing some research for this movie review, that Brad Pitt was originally cast to play the role of reporter Cal and Edward Norton was going to play the Congressman, well this was a break for both Crowe and Affleck because this turned out to be a great movie and these were very well written rich, characters that are the stuff actors’ dream of. The scenes that are shoot in the newsroom really pull you into this world and have such an air of realism that the you can almost smell the ink from the presses and the clicking of Reporter McAffrey’s ancient keyboard will ring true for those of us that had one of those clunky, noisy beasts to type on for so many years. The pace of this film is what I was fascinated with, it give you just enough of the story to tease you into amazement and has characters that are likeable and you do start to care about what happens to them. This is a really well done film with a story that was relatively still easy to follow and yet was still intelligent enough to engage even a jaded film goer like myself.

No spoiler reviews

OK “We don’t do spoilers”; it’s my policy to be very vague about the story lines of the films I review here. I have always hated reading movie reviews that tell to much about a film. Entering a theater already having preconceived notions about the plot and / or the outcome of the film in the past have ruined the viewing experience for me,so this is why these reviews are written this way . I hope you enjoy our NO Spoiler Action Movie Reviews!
