Monsters vs. Aliens : Movie review

Well from the start this Animation movie threw me for a loop. After last year’s Bolt and Wall-e the bar for animated films is so high that something really special has to be achieved to even come close to that level. I am a huge fan of animated films and really wanted to sing high praises for this movie and was eager to see this film. The film starts out with a girl getting married and within 10 minutes into the story, she’s a 50 foot tall monster with really no back story on her or her life or anything, just bang.
Then out of the blue a crack team of army soldiers has her captured with specialized equipment just made to capture a fifty foot woman, and there are not anymore fifty foot people in the rest of this film. She then wakes up in a specialized metal facility made to accommodate a fifty woman and how did they know that there was ever going to be a fifty foot woman to capture? I know this was a 3d film and fantasy, but there are so many jump cuts that I lost my bearing and stop caring. The monsters look as if different people drew each one and the really don’t match as a set; I kind of didn’t get it. Toy Story or The Incredibles, or even Fly Me to the Moon or Ants even Beowulf, everything was a complete world, the different bugs or toys or whatever all matched. I know a small army of artists and animators works for months building these models and key framing them, so I will say that there some very interesting angles at the end of this film that are pushing the edge of technology, I did notice a crab shot or two. Also the hair, yes for year’s hair in these films was a colored blob on top of characters heads, this movie had hair each an individual strand and must have taken forever to render each frame. I’m sure that like they say in the world of celluloid “the best stuff ended up on the cutting room floor”.

No spoiler reviews
OK “We don’t do spoilers”; it’s my policy to be very vague about the story lines of the films I review here. I have always hated reading movie reviews that tell to much about a film. Entering a theater already having preconceived notions about the plot and / or the outcome of the film in the past have ruined the viewing experience for me,so this is why these reviews are written this way . I hope you enjoy our NO Spoiler Action Movie Reviews!
