Bruno 2009 vs. Borat 2006 : movie reviews I can’t write about this year’s new release of Sasha Cohn’s Bruno with mentioning one of my Favorite comedies Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. The game as those of us who have played it gets progressively hard as you move up levels to the point of utter insanity. This is the story of Steve Wiebe and Billy Mitchell , Steve is trying to get this record that has been unbeaten for over 20 years. There is a bunch of other people associated with Twin Galaxies, an organization formed to keep track of high scores achieved on arcade games in the United States and they are interview, which adds to the story and its complexities. Overnight is a 2003 documentary that tells the story of the rise and fall of a Bartender that has the whole of Hollywood attention and then Lets his own ego take it away, this film was made by Tony Montana and Mark Brian Smith. We start with Shots of news clippings from the Hollywood Reporter and News reporters telling of Bartender Troy Duffy, who writes a Script for a film called Boondock Saints and he is in a deal with Miramax for what looks like a Fortune. MOON :: 2009 movie review

Moon is a 2009 Science fiction movie Directed by Duncan Jones and starring Sam Rockwell, about a man all alone on a lunar mining station. We meet Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) who is a man all alone on the moon, mining a new form of energy call helium-3 which was solved the world’s energy crisis. He is just a few weeks out from his replacement arriving when strange things start to happen in his space station. He starts to see weird hallucinations and glitches in his transmissions back home, and then has a freak accident. He has a robot to keep him company named Gerty (voiced by Kevin Spacey), he then learns what’s really going on by chance and has to take steps to rectify it. Every time I hear Kevin Spacey’s voice I think of Swimming with Sharks and his character Buddy Ackerman but that’s just me, really if you think of that as the robot it’s really quite funny.

But, really he is a good choose for this character and does great voiceovers to make it work and it does. This is a good not great film and since it’s All about Sam Bell, Sam Rockwell has to shine and he does. There is a back story and it works well to drive the plot, but it’s hard to have deep conversations between a robot and a solitary astronaut.

The director Duncan Jones aka Zowie Bowie son of famous singer David Bowie, made a decision to use models for the scenes of the moon rovers and space station. This works really well and gives the desired feel of a 70-80’s sci-fi films that are so well regarded by sci-fi fans over the years. This film is a little slow in parts as the plot development is employed. Overall this is a well made movie and it overcomes its slow starting pace to break away once the plot is revealed.

Moon was screened at NASA's Space Center Houston at the request of a professor there. The screening was part of a lecture series. "He'd been reading online that we'd done this film about Helium-3 mining and that's something that people at NASA are working on," says Jones. "We did a Q&A afterward. They asked me why the base looked so sturdy, like a bunker, and not like the kind of stuff they are designing that they are going to transport with them. I said 'Well, in the future I assume you won't want to continue carrying everything with you, you'll want to use the resources on the moon to build things' and a woman in the audience raised her hand and said, 'I'm actually working on something called Mooncrete, which is concrete that mixes lunar regolith and ice water from the moon's polar caps.'"
